Monaco Gallery Carré Doré

I have held an exhibition from 23 September to 4 October at Gallery Carré Doré in Monaco with a Japanese-style painter Tetsuei Nakamura, and a calligraphist Kisui Nakazawa.

The exhibition of an overseas is the first time for me.
The works, which I made this time, are loaded with the technique of various traditional handcrafts of Japan. The style of such my work is innovative also in Japan.

And, exhibition of such a work is unprecedented also by a European gallery.I am looking forward to this opportunity very much.

NO.1UNKAI

"Waves and Clouds",  A carton box with metallic decoration. The material of this box is a traditional Japanese silk wrapping cloth.  It is called “Fukusa", which was popular in the Edo period.  This cloth is decorated with such traditional skills as "Shibori" (tie-dyed fabric), "Shishu" (embroidery) and "Mizuhiki" (decorative Japanese cord).  "Cloud" is designed on the lid of the box and the decorations on the outsides represent"waves."  These metallic decorations are based on the skills of the craftsmen who worked on the decoration of the palatial residence (Honmaru Goden) of Nagoya Castle.

NO.2HYAKKA-RYOURAN

"Three-fold Box" with the braided cord. A band of a Japanese Kimono is used for this box.  The inside of this box is silver-lacquered.  Its gentle rounded edges are a distinctive characteristic of the three-fold box.

NO.3MATSUKAZE

"A Carton Box" with the Braided Cord. A part of a Kimono, on which a Japanese Family Crest is printed, is used as the material for this box.

NO.4SHIDEN

"Three-fold Lozenge Carton Box" with the Braided Cord. The cloth that is used for this box is a part of the robe of a Japanese Buddhist monk.  The inside of this box is vermilion-lacquered.  The vermilion strap on the lid is a Japanese braided cord.

NO.5MAIOUGI

"A Carton Box" with the Braided Cord. A band of an old Sunday best Kimono is used for this box.  Auspicious symbolic pictures such as a Japanese folding fan, pine trees and a phoenix are depicted.

NO.6A hexagonal pattern"and"An antique pattern

"A Carton Letter Box" with the Braided Cord. The inside of this letter box is brown-lacquered.

NO.7HEIKE-KAMON-CHOUZU

"Emblem; Butterfly", A Panel. A "Fukusa" of the Edo Period is used as the material for this panel.  "Fukusa" is a traditional Japanese silk wrapping cloth.  A butterfly, which has been used as a family crest from ancient times in Japan, is depicted in the center of this panel. This part is decorated with bronze.

NO.8HEIKE-KAMON-CHOUZU

"Emblem; Butterfly", A Panel. A "Fukusa" of the Edo Period is used as the material for this panel.  "Fukusa" is a traditional Japanese silk wrapping cloth.  A butterfly, which has been used as a family crest from ancient times in Japan, is depicted in the center of this panel. This part is decorated with bronze.

NO.9KEN-KATABAMI

 "Emblem", A Panel. This panel represents a family crest, a sword-shaped Katabami (Wood Sorrel) flower, with metallic decoration.

NO.10TSUKI

 "Clouded Moon", A Folding Screen. With the use of metallic parts, a clouded moon and mountainous landscapes from Japan are drawn in this screen.  The depiction of these views follow that of the ancient Japan.
